MetaMask Wallet Guide — Setup, Security & USDT 2025
MetaMask is the world's most widely used Ethereum-compatible wallet with over 30 million active users. Unlike Trust Wallet, MetaMask works as a browser extension — ideal for accessing DeFi protocols, NFT platforms, and Web3 applications. This guide covers everything from installation to advanced security.
What Is MetaMask?
- A browser extension wallet for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Brave
- Also available as a mobile app (iOS and Android)
- Supports Ethereum, Polygon, BNB Chain, Arbitrum, and all EVM-compatible networks
- Does not natively support Bitcoin or Tron (TRC20)
For USDT transfers at Adonis Exchange, we recommend using MetaMask on the BEP20 (BNB Chain) or ERC20 (Ethereum) network.
Step 1: Install MetaMask
- Visit metamask.io (verify you're on the official site)
- Click "Download" and select your browser
- Install the extension and pin it to your browser toolbar
- Or download the mobile app from the App Store / Google Play
Step 2: Create a New Wallet
- Click the MetaMask fox icon in your browser
- Select "Create a new wallet"
- Agree to terms and set a strong password (this unlocks MetaMask on your device)
- Watch the security video and proceed to the seed phrase step
Step 3: Secure Your Seed Phrase
⚠️ MetaMask will reveal your 12-word Secret Recovery Phrase. This is your master key.
- Click "Reveal Secret Recovery Phrase"
- Write all 12 words on paper, in exact order
- Store it offline — never in email, cloud storage, or photos
- Confirm the phrase by selecting words in the correct sequence
Step 4: Add USDT Token to MetaMask
By default, MetaMask shows ETH. To see USDT, you need to add it manually:
Add USDT on Ethereum (ERC20):
- Open MetaMask → scroll down → click "Import tokens"
- Enter the USDT contract address:
0xdAC17F958D2ee523a2206206994597C13D831ec7 - Symbol: USDT, Decimals: 6 — click "Add custom token"
Add USDT on BNB Chain (BEP20) — cheaper fees:
- First switch network: click the network dropdown → "Add network" → search "BNB Smart Chain"
- Then import token with contract:
0x55d398326f99059fF775485246999027B3197955
Network Comparison for USDT
| Network | In MetaMask? | Fee | Speed |
|---|---|---|---|
| ERC20 (Ethereum) | Yes (default) | $5–$30 | ~15 sec |
| BEP20 (BNB Chain) | Yes (add network) | ~$0.10 | ~5 sec |
| TRC20 (Tron) | No | ~$1 | ~3 sec |
| Polygon | Yes (add network) | ~$0.01 | ~2 sec |
Receiving USDT in MetaMask
- Click your account name at the top to copy your address
- Or click "Receive" to see the QR code
- Make sure the sender uses the same network — sending ERC20 USDT to a BEP20 address will result in loss of funds
Security Best Practices
- 🔒 Use a separate browser profile for MetaMask (isolates it from other extensions)
- 🔒 Never approve unknown contract interactions
- 🔒 Check every website URL before connecting your wallet
- 🔒 Consider a hardware wallet (Ledger/Trezor) for large amounts
- 🔒 Revoke token approvals regularly at revoke.cash
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- ❌ Never send TRC20 USDT to a MetaMask address — it only works on EVM chains
- ❌ Don't share your seed phrase with MetaMask support — they never ask for it
- ❌ Don't use MetaMask on compromised or shared computers
FAQ
Can I use MetaMask with Adonis Exchange?
Yes. If you want to send or receive USDT on ERC20 or BEP20, MetaMask works perfectly. For TRC20 (our default network), use Trust Wallet instead.
My USDT is not showing in MetaMask — what do I do?
You need to manually add the USDT token contract. Follow Step 4 above and make sure you're on the correct network that matches the USDT you received.
